Welcome to St. John the Baptist Church, Barnet

Church of England     Chipping Barnet Team Ministry

Barnet Guild of Bellringers

There have been bells at St John the Baptist since at least 1423. We know this because the records show that the congregation was excommunicated that year for failing to ring the bells when the Archbishop passed through Barnet!

For many years there were six bells. When the church was expanded and substantially remodelled in 1875 a new tower was built and two bells were added to make a ring of eight. The eight bells which were recast in 1892.

The bells are tuned in the key of “D”. The Tenor weighs 22-3-15 (bell weights are traditionally given in hundredweights, quarters and pounds).

There is an active and enthusiastic local band.

Sunday service ringing is from 8.55 – 9.30 AM

Practice is every Monday evening from 7.45 - 9.15 PM

The Ringers would like to extend a warm invitation to everyone interested in learning more about the bells or having a try to come along on a Monday evening and see what we are up to.
